One year ago, my family and I made the rode trip from Atlanta to Washington, D.C. to be involved in the presidential inauguration of Barack Obama. Why did we take this trip? We didn’t have official tickets to the inaugration or to any of the parties/balls. It was going to be a loooong drive with four adults, two adolescents, and a toddler all packed in a Cadillac Escalade. There were going to be thousands of people, long lines, cold weather, and a lot of hurry-up and waiting.

But for my generation (and my nieces and son) this would be a time to actively participate in HISTORY!!!

This was also a great time to learn about all types of American history while visiting the nation’s capitol. We took advantage of this time to make it a learning adventure for the kids and for the grown-ups. We got to visit many of the museums and momuments. We went to the official kick-off concert with Bono and Mary J. Blige. We rode the city’s transportation with a thousand other people from all over the world. And we talked about HOPE and Social Responsibility.

In the year that has past, have we all committed to the social responsibility that is required for the betterment of our country and our WORLD? Are we all on board to help everyone succeed? When one of us succeeds, we all succeed in some way or another. There are many non profits and charities that need volunteers on a regular basis. Trust me, getting involved makes a huge difference in the way you feel about others AND yourself.

Also in remembering Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.-the great ones always gave selflessly to help others in need, not knowing (or needing to know) what would come out of it.

Let’s be one of the GREAT ONES!! If you have not gotten on the “CHANGE” bandwagon, it starts with the man in the mirror. What we think, is what is in our hearts. Maybe some thoughts need to be “changed”. Change cannot begin without true authenticity to self, then to others.

It’s so true that change begins one by one. (Great pictures!)
