Work From Home Mom…..Really??!!

While I was browsing through a magazine the other day, I came across this picture. It made me laugh a little bit to see this happy “mom” with her baby in her lap working from home. Why did it make me laugh? It is not that I don’t believe that women can have a successful career working from home but it would be really difficult with a baby sitting on your lap.

Another reason it made me laugh is because this idea of working from home and still having our children with us is a desire of many moms (myself included) but this picture really smacked me in the face to how hard it would be to do both at the same time. Many of us dream of leaving our jobs to stay at home and be actively involved in the growth and development of our child 24 hours a day. BUT we want/need a salary too. That is where the dilemma comes about.

Can we be successful career women and successful (happy) moms and wives all at the same time? The answer for me is yes. Is there a “give and take” that comes along with wearing many hats? The answer again is yes. Can I have my baby boy sitting on my lap while I blog or enter medication orders? The answer is NO!!

Work-Life balance is the ultimate goal. It can be achieved and many company’s are prioritizing the need for employees to have this balance as an incentive to retain moms. Many used to ask me how I worked and home-schooled my toddler at the same time. Luckily, I had the opportunity to have a work schedule that allowed for it. Was it hard? Again, the answer is YES but it is and always will be my mission to prioritize my family while having a successful career.

To all the career-building moms……RAISE YOUR FISTS IN THE AIR!!!
