At the end of every year I begin to think about down-sizing my lifestyle. Why is this? Because I know that there are more important things in life than “THINGS” and I want to be sure that I am living my life to the fullest in the most authentic way.
One way that I do this is to assess what magazine subscriptions I want to keep or not renew. Around the holidays is when you really get bombarded with subscription renewals or using them as gift options. I am really focused on what I “put into my mind” whether it be from magazines, radio, or television because what goes in (positive or negative), re-invents itself in someway in our lives.
One magazine that I love and will be renewing is RealSimple. The name speaks for itself. It is a magazine dedicated to keeping our lives as simple that we can have them but still living it to the fullest. The January 2011 issue just reaffirmed the reason why I love the magazine so much. On the front of the magazine reads….”Be Happier This Year”!Isn’t that all that we really want is to be happy (made simple)? They talk about 9 easy ways to be happier (chill out, remember whence you came, don’t dwell…just to name a few).
Another great article in this issue that I found to be useful and eye opening was…”If You Have Five Minutes” (pick a task to accomplish). They gave examples such as call your dad, sew on a button, clear off the top of the refrigerator, get rid of one pair of shoes that kill your feet, etc. The other suggestions are just a profound and things that we “can” do if we just take the time (5 mins) out of our busy day.
Every time someone comes to my blog, I want them to have learned something and leave (hopefully) a little smarter. That is what I get from the magazine RealSimple. I have no affiliation to the magazine but I just love what they produce. You should check it out.
