I had planned on reading Maria Menounos’ book “The Everygirl’s Guide To Life” while I was on vacation, but somehow I just didn’t get around to it. But I have now and I can tell you it was worth the wait.

This book is written by a woman who has had a successful career as a journalist, correspondent, actress, daughter, friend and partner. But above all of that, this book tells you how to be smart and resourceful with the blessings and success that you achieve.

What I mean by that is, just because you may be receiving a great salary and have access to the best services, it doesn’t mean you have to go crazy with it. Be smart and make smart decisions for your future.

Maria gives examples of this in the way she decorates her home (IKEA, baby), maintains her home (she is the maid, sometimes), manages her business affairs (work smart-not hard), and many, many other terrific tips.

Since my blog deals with family life and organizing a hectic schedule, I was able to pull several things from this book to help me be a better EveryGirl.

A few of the tips that I will be incorporating into my life are:

1. Organize your home so that you don’t spend a lot of time searching for things. I am pretty organized but there is always room for improvement….especially in my master bathroom. Maria gives great tips on how to keep things organized AND make your bathroom feel like a luxurious 5 star hotel.

2. Learn how to become a “fix-it” EveryGirl even if it is just for the little things. Tools have never been my thing. But since owning a home, I have found that it can save big bucks by knowing how to use a hammer and screwdriver. And you can just about found out how to repair anything on Google and YouTube.

3. Traveling made easy. Maria gives great tips on how to pack, what to take, and what to expect from hotels when traveling. I really need help in this department because I always tend to over pack. One of the great packing tips Maria gives is to color coordinate your days that way you have an idea of what you are going to be wearing and what accessories you will need.

4. Prioritize exercise and diet. This has always been on the forefront of my brain but I am not always successful at getting it done. Maria suggests to take everything in a step-wise manner that way you don’t feel overwhelmed. A little exercise here and a little portion control there can make a huge difference.

5. Partner Relationships. The take home message I got from Maria regarding your mate is that you are each others “partner” meaning that we are in each other lives to make it the best that it can be. We share in the ups and downs but above all else, we work together to have successful lives.

There are so many other great aspects to this book and the personal pictures are amazing and inspirational. This is a great book to read with some girlfriends or just to keep on your bedroom side table as a reminder of what an EveryGirl can do.
