Blogalicious 2011! The Take-Home Messages—It’s Not What You Think!

This past week, I was priviledge to attend the Blogalicious 2011 Conference in Washington, D.C.  The conference was held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center which was a sight to see on its own. The hotel seats on the National Harbour in D.C. waterfront and is such a beautiful miracle of God. I realized walking back and forth from the hotel to the restaurants and other hotels, was that in the busyness of our day and the preoccupation of our minds, that it was easy for me to not look to my right and enjoy the beauty of the rest of the city. We should ALWAYS take the time to live consciously and SLOW DOWN!

One of the highlights of the conference was being able to meet up with my longtime pharmacy school friend, Nanette who also flew in from Houston for the conference.

Nanette and I have always been supportive of each others endeavors and this conference gave us an opportunity to learn together and grow from each others experiences. Not only did we spend time focusing on the conference, we also spent quality time focusing on sharing stories that could help us to be better people in general. Nanette has a blog site named Heal A Sister which is dedicated to sharing women’s stories that will encourage others to live their BEST lives no matter the circumstances.

The next big thing that I learned from the conference was about the More Birthdays Campaign. It is a campaign by the American Cancer Society that is dedicated to a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

A lady who was currently in treatment for breast cancer told her story of how she will forever have to receive chemotherapy in order to suppress her cancer. Everyone “sighed” in the room, but she said that she “cheers” at the fact that she will receive chemotherapy for the rest of her life because that means that she will be alive. Now that is a different and probably more correct way to look at her situation.

At the Whirpool Hospitality Suite the bloggers had the opportunity to Refresh, Recharge, and Rehydrate. They offered cucumber and lemon water, fresh fruit, foot massages, a quiet environment, and ports for us to recharge our phones and computers. I thought this was one of the best rooms in the hotel because the REFRESH, RECHARGE, REHYDRATE theme should always be our mantra.

I also met two celebrities that brought joy to my spirit in two different ways. The first was the actress Paula Patton who is the new face of Cover Girl Cosmetics. Her joyful and peaceful spirit shines through her smile.

And the second celebrity was Shrek, who just made me laugh and brought a smile to “my” face!

Even though this was a conference about blogging, it was also a time for me to get REVIVED inside and out. I did learn a lot about social media and how to find my own voice through my blog. And I have no doubt that these experiences will show through on my future posts.

Thanks to all of the sponsors of the Blogalicious 2011 Conference.

Always enjoy learning and laughing with a good friend. I love the photos on this post! Still can’t believe I took two cameras to the conference and only took four photos. I have got to do better.
