Meditation Monday! So, There’s No Such Thing As Work/Life Balance?

Lately I have been hearing a lot of buzz about there being no such thing as work/life balance. Do you believe that to be true? I have desperately been trying to find a balance between my job and family so that neither would be sacrificed but I will admit that it is hard.

I am so blessed to have had parents that sacrificed almost everything so that I could attend professional school to become a pharmacist. It was really like they were going to school and graduating as when I did. I wouldn’t take that for granted to save my life. That is why I take my career very seriously (also because it is a valued and worthy job).

But now that I am married and have my own family, I want to give that as much validation as I do my career. I am thankful that my current job has allowed me to shift my positions around a little bit to accommodate my family life over the years. This is not always an options on many jobs.

I do still believe that there can be work/life balance but we just have to start creating a new normal for our lives. What I mean by that is that we have to stop thinking about our jobs in the traditional way and create better ways to do the same job (or similar) that benefits our lifestyle.

There are ways that we can re-invent ourselves and our careers that allow us to still have the best of both worlds. This is what I call the 21st century way of thinking about our new normal way of life. In the Digital Age, many jobs that we currently do can be done from home, by flexing time with another employee, or gives us the ability to create our own businesses. In order to do this, we have to change the way we think and market ourselves (skills).

I refuse to believe that there is no such thing as work/life balance because life is what you make it. And with the grace of God and my constant need to seek His will first, I know that I will be lead in the right direction.

I will be talking more about the new normal during the month of March for a series topic. I hope you join me!

First let me say that I had no idea you were a pharmacist. How did I miss that? Your post is great! I really need to take your advice and create a new normal for myself and my family. I am totally out of wack and off balance and I’ve been this way for a LEAST a year and a half. It seems that I’m under water and can’t breathe. God is really, really working on me and it’s not so easy. But I know there is something better after this trial is over. I just hope I can maintain my sanity through it all.
