Using During The School Year!

We are exciting to be starting First Grade this year and even though we used all summer to assist with Thomas’ reading, we will continue to use it during the school year.

We were sent a letter from his current school that this year they will primarily be focusing on Math and Language Arts/English this year, with all other subjects being secondary. I am pleased with this decision because I feel that developing “critical thinking” skills is best for our day and age.

We have about a week and a half left before the first day of First Grade. During this time we will be reviewing Kindergarten lesson such as word problems, intro to addition and subtraction, addition practice, word machine (sounds), intro to reading and make a calendar for the school year.

Supplementing my son’s learning at home with will be a big part of our weekly homeschooling lessons for first grade. This is what we will be doing at home:

Word Problems First Grade Math word problems

First Grade Math base ten problems

First Grade Math Geometry & Measurement Interpreting Data

First Grade Fiction and Non Fiction Talking Library

We made it through unit 4 during this summer for his Phonological Awareness and Phonics reading and have 4 more units to go. Each units contains 12 lessons so it takes some time to get through. We are committed to finishing this section even though school has started. I am hoping that with him reading at school and home, will make it lots easier.

I still highly recommend using this site to supplement your child’s learning at home and the cost is so reasonable that it would be a shame not to sign up for it.

Will continue to share.
